Kinja'd!!!

I noticed this bubble. But it's not like any bubble I've ever had.

I called TireRack as these tires are less than 2 years old. Pretty much they told me buy a new tire, have the old one inspected, if it wasn't from impact they will credit me.

The thing is this isn't a normal bubble. The bubble is almost a perfect rectangle with straight sides.

Basically I want a second opinion. What should I do? Does this look like a serious bubble or just the way the tire was manufactured?

huh interesting. It could be a manufacturing defect, but you would have noticed before 2 years I would think

That *can* be normal, usually seen on high profile light truck tires. You are seeing where the sidewall belting overlaps. At the overlap, it is least flexible. Has the tire always been like that?

Here is your answer on TireRack

The thing is I think I did. But it was never this noticeable until now.

I'm not sure how long, but I have noticed it before. I don't think it's been this bad. It's only real noticeable with the tire wet. It doesn't quite protrude out, the sides go in which is making me second guess the usual sidewall bubble.

Does the tire lose air? The body could seperate and it might look like that, its a weird one.

I would get it checked out, if you can get it replaced for little cost I would for sure. One tire shouldn't murder the wallet too bad.

An indentation isn't a bubble. If reinforcements inside the tire casing break, you'd get an outward bulge. Google "tire sidewall overlap identation" or something to that effect, and you will find more examples of your condition.

Is it a bubble or are they two indentations on the sidewall? Tirerack says indentations are from the cords:

"Tires are reinforced by encasing individual fabric cords (typically polyester or rayon) in rubber. Radial ply tires feature one or more layers of cord (depending on the tire's required strength) that basically run parallel to each other from bead to bead (with each individual cord running up the sidewall, across the tread and down the other sidewall). Because of their "straight across" direction, the overlap where the sidewall cords are lap spliced may sometimes cause a slight indentation."

I'm leaning towards this. It looks like a bubble but really the 2 indentations make it appear like that. It doesn't seem to be protruding out any more than the rest of the sidewall.

I had the same issues on my older Toyo all terrain and Firestone all terrain tires. I'm not sure if this effect performance.

From an image search I've yet to come across something that looks like mine.

Every Conti I've heard of has soft sidewalls. It could be a tire from shallow end of the bell curve on the manufacturing spectrum. Otherwise if they're used 4-seasons round, you pumped up your tires in February or so to 35psi, and you haven't checked your tires lately, it could have formed from hitting something and having elevated pressure in your tires as pressure will rise with temperature.

Just a thought.

Pretty much this, Conti's are for glass smooth roads and not much else.

Sod tire rack, contact Conti and ask them.

They pointed me to TireRack. Seems no one wants to give an opinion over the phone. Liability psh.

Oh, that sucks balls. You're going to need to pull something slick and start dating the tire-rack amanger's daughter. When he knows his little girl's going in the car with you, that's when you'll find out if it's really a problem or not.
